Which protection you need becomes clear at the end of a cleansing, not at the start. Predicting the whole path in advance is close to impossible.
With protection in place, diagnostics can be done less often.

If the root of the problem is inside you, protection will not solve it. It will either seal you in with what you're carrying, or leak from the inside.
